Taking photos.. Naked.. (Pinhole DSLR DIY)

Actually the camera is naked.
You simply do not need fancy lens to make photos.
Pinhole photography is becoming more and more popular these days.
I just discovered modern pinhole technique, Pinhole DSLR.
It takes about 60 seconds to turn your modern DSLR into something that reminds the times of camera obscura.
As far as I understand there are no pros for making this only big bunch of cons.
Pros:
1 Cheap (costs almost nothing)
2 “Oldschoolish”
3 Weightless “lens”
Cons:
1 This type of lens can make your sensor dirty if not used properly
2 Long exposure time means you need tripod or very steady hand
3 Lots of noise, grain, chromatic aberrations, flares
4 Soft focus
5 Weird look
6 Etc..

But still its lot of fun and educative.
Many people owing camera doesn’t even know how it works. Pinholes are the best example.

For this project you’ll need:
Piece of paper(black cardboard would be better)
Double sided sticky tape( I know it cost a bit, but still you gonna need just a small piece of it)
Pin, to make a hole

The whole process is so simple that there is no point posting images.

Firstly:
Cut a circle from paper about the same size as your camera body cap is.
Stick the sticky tape on it
Make a hole. Calculate its size here http://www.mrpinhole.com/holesize.php
Peel other side of the sticky tape and stick it on the camera carefully, because you need that the hole would be almost exactly in the middle.
Turn the camera on, set manual mode, and here we go.
Of course you can decorate your newly made lens, paint it black or do whatever your heart desires.

Use flash or other light sources to make scene brighter and reduce exposure time. Also use higher iso.

I need it now.. Been sick for about a week. Five days of nothing, lying in bed, wasting my time playing computer games, watching pointless movies of youtube videos…
Finally I got myself fixed and made few senseless pictures of pills that need to take..

Yesterday was a bad day, not just because it rained almost all the time, but because I finally understood that I have no warm relationships with my so called “friends” at all.Of course I have many connections (facebook says 168) but they aren’t permanent.

But what’s permanent…

That fucked up feeling when you don’t understand what are you doing wrong but everything fails. Relationships too.
You ask a friend of yours “Would you like to go out?” and get unexpected answer NO. And no clear explanation why.

I had always thought that friends are open to each other…

But being sad and depressed sometimes helps capturing great photos..

But this blog is created not only for my personal thoughts but for photography also. So..
We have a time change in Lithuania.. Clocks are set one hour backwards every autumn and one hour forwards in spring.. how this influences photography? It gets DARK after I get home after school. No tripod = no good photos. I hate using pop-up flash, and there are no chances to get normal one.

Goldsprints

Yesterday was a great day. Goldsprint race was held in my home town Vilnius for the first time. It was also the first time in whole Lithuania. Sadly i wasn’t able to participate, because of financial problems. I need to fix my fixie and only later after some exercises begin participating in such events.

Inspirations, aspirations.

Inspiration is such difficult and messed up thing for me. It comes from nowhere it goes to nowhere. Sometimes when you need it like water it’s just not there. Inspiration is the question various artists try to solve all the time, but it’s almost unsolvable. You’ll ask why? Because its personal thing. Everyone must solve this question at their own, of course help from others is always possible. My inspiration comes from music mainly. I can barely create without it. Today was the day of thoughts. Almost no pictures taken, but many concepts and photo ideas created.I hope that they are not going to get wasted and forgotten and that in the near future I’ll be able to put some real photos here of what came to my head recently.

Theme.. Yes there is one.. Its School, but the dark side of it.. Stress, nerves and tension during the classes because of many factors.. Bad teachers, bad material, too much of information, or just lack of patience.. I’m going to take my final exams these years so it means there is much more stress and bran f****ing then in lower grades. You need to know that, you don’t need to learn that, do that, don’t do that…. And in the end you just want get away from school and all those miserable problems that lurks in every classroom..

Style? LOW-KEY (my lame low key set)

Three days have passed and only now i understood purpose of this blog creation.
It’s made to remind me that I have a great hobby and passion – photography.
I hate writing things actually. Every time i sit by computer screen or by sheet of paper no new thoughts are coming to my head, but when I’m walking alone in the woods or just simply going home from school various ideas just pop up out of nowhere. So i think that’s the reason why I enjoy taking pictures so much. it gives me freedom of thoughts, you can do almost everything you want achieve every goal or if not there is one another option – Photoshop
I have heard that they are preparing to release CS5 soon, those greedy bastards.

Today i have taken only one picture that’s kind of sad.
I’m still waiting for my Hoya IR filter to arrive and starting to get nervous as always almost two weeks passed.
Flikr isn’t working and I can’t understand what’s wrong. Hope it will get fixed soon. So I’m going to remember good old times and upload photo to imageshack.

I have made a few crucial mistakes in this one and even single mistake cen ruin everything. So I do understand that this looks like shit.

The mistakes:
1. No part of human body can be as functional as tripod so always carry one when shooting in low light.
2. ISO setting is very important. Shooting at high IS0 gives you images like this one and makes many problems at post processing and noise. I forgot to lover mine.
3. Make many photos from various angles instead of one (im my case 3 for HDR).

Yesterday I made a few photos of these nice children.
I have never imagined how easy it is.
Unfortunately it was about 5 o’clock and sky was covered with clouds so there was lack of natural light .Everyone who have tried to make photos like these knows that fast shutter speed is essential. I didn’t want to use my pop-up flash so I boosted ISO to 400 and that partially helped, but still it’s possible to see some blur.
Making children photos is very pleasant thing. You can try to go back in time and remember all those childhood games you have long forgotten.

Today I had tried a bit of night time HDR. It does not look as cool as I expected bus still can catch attention of an unexpierenced photographer.
